Tracking Your WordPress Blog : The Google Way

This is for the extra curious kind, the kind of bloggers like me who really cares for the stats, the most searched keywords, the relevancy of keywords, the stats, the links referring you, and of all, the site rankings…

Ever since i started blogging on wordpress, i had wanted to have full control over it. but to be honest, i have not yet

But i am relieved that we are not restricted, the .com bloggers.. (for those confused, the .org is said to the wordpress blog you have at yourname.com while the .com are the ones we do at yourname.wordpress.com, like mine)

There is a heaven for seo experts and to that heaven there is, obviously, a path. The heaven is to ranking and the path is the sitemap. It all starts with the sitemaps, and then later on it goes to the keyword latency and stuff like that. Blessed, the .com people have the feature, the sitemaps, done automatically by the wordpress.com domain. you can view it at blog/sitemap.xml .

Now as you all know, the sitemap is not the thing, you have it to let it reach the right “persons”, well it is also done brilliantly. Over to google, yahoo, bing, technorati and all you guys would or wouldn’t know about, wordpress pings the sitemap each time you post, edit, and delete a post from your blog.

Now you start asking this question : what is the purpose of this post, again ?

The answer is, you are still in the center of the field and asking for boundary. There are a tonnes of things you can do with your blog getting into the tops. This includes submitting your comments feed as a sitemap, removing the unwanted urls from the indexed urls, refining your tag selection with the keyword latency and obviously, remove duplicate links and adding you to the google news if you are a frequent blogger.

Now on with the technical stuff :

Get a google webmaster account

The first thing you need to do is get yourself a Google webmaster account.
To do that, go to http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools and then signup for an account.

Add your blog to the account

Once you are in the global dashboard, add your blog to the domain
Enter your blog url in the add domain box. eg: harisankarr.wordpress.com and then click add.

Verifying your blog to Google

After adding your domain, you will be asked to verify the ownership.
Choose the meta method of verification.
Now copy the html code they gave and go to your blog’s admin panel.
Click on ‘tools’ from the left sidebar.
In the tools page, you’ll find ‘Webmaster Tools Verification’
Below that, there is a text field next to Google webmaster tools. Paste the code you copied there and click ‘save changes’.
Then go back to the Google webmaster panel and click verify site now.
Voilà ! You have successfully added your blog to webmaster tools !

Adding the sitemap

Once you have verified the blog, go to its dashboard by clicking on the link with your blog’s name.
Then at the right bottom of the screen you can see sitemaps. Click on more/add sitemap.
You’ll be taken to the sitemap page.
There, click on submit a sitemap and type in sitemap.xml and click submit.
Similarly, click on submit a sitemap again, then type feed then submit it.
This is for submitting your rss feed as a sitemap so that the indexing works perfectly.

Well there you have it ! Almost full control of your site in webmasters. Now the rest portions include refining keywords and such, which you can find on the internet. SEO is a very very large topic and it differs from site to site type to type and content to content. But all that depends on is how the search engine bot crawls your site. Make sure you select w3 valid themes and include cross-links to other posts in your blog. Keep your content with quality stuff and do not copy paste articles unless they are quoted. Include alt labels for images, and caption them. Make the filenames similar to its inside content and always, always respect the code of blogging

Extra terrestriality, a possibility?

From the day we became aware of the fact that there existed something called the space, we portrayed creatures lived there, which came down to earth. While some took friendship, most were onto war. As technology progressed and we learned more and more about the indefinite universe and space, the stories became more and more technical and hard to not believe. Born star wars and star trek… It has always been a question whether are we the only life form? Does life exist outside? Well it has been assumed that calculating its probablity, millions of places are there in the universe where life can be formed. But its just that there is no material proof. You see, fishes or monkeys can’t build a transmitter or a reciever to return or hear our et calls… Imagine if some planet had life but no radio transmitters, our signals would make them feel nothing, just like the mobile network’s signal does nothing to us. The ufo mysteries and others are totally created and built stories. Straight to the fact that, every ufo encounter has been shot using a very low definition camera, very shaky, and only happens for a few seconds… And the ufo never used any fuel, no exhaust, nothing, it just floated like that, in the air.
Our quest for the next habitable place is quite amusing. Many many possible theories, alien encounters, proofs have been found supporting the fact. And who knows if the area 51 has a frozen alien? Lol… This a dry subject to me just came into my mind as i was drooling through my physics text, reading about the metric expansion of present universe…

Why not faster than light?

Ever wondered super fast light speed travel? You should have, when the starships did their hyperdrives, when they time travelled, when einstein said the relativity theory… You should have…
Hence for the day’s article – faster than light. As a kid, i had always wanted to go faster than light, or in a sense, do things in a speed when compared to light is more quick. When i came across the basics of quantum theory and relativity theories, that wish faded away. But i was not sad, rather happy. That i found something cooler than faster than light – nothing.
Now to the science part, for those people still wondering what i’m telling. First and last, faster than light travel is impossible. You see, mass energy and time are related to reach other. While the relation of energy and mass is mathematical, that to time is only theory. Einstein in his famous relation of e=mc^2 proved its importance. It says that to exhibit a speed of a photon, a particle should have infinite energy, if not weightless. For any particle greater than a velocity c, the mass may go negative according to the tachyon theory. Meaning in simple words, that it should show us the real meaning of negative numbers. Coming in relation to speed, to accelerate an object of mass to a speed equal to c, one should need infinite energy with no opposing force. If in any chance that can occur will be at the event horizon of a black hole. Now, infinite energy is something that will never ever be possible . And speaking of greater than light speeds, there is zero probablity. The value of speed of light is a universal constant. In every frame, its the same. Lets consider an example, if a light source is moving towards us at a speed of c/2 and then emits a photon, the photon will not have a velocity of 3c/2 but c itself. Why? The doppler effect gives us the answer, the red and the blue shift. There are objects which change at rates higher than light, like a shadow movement, our thinking frequency, but all these can’t be used to transport or propogate any information or matter. Specially when transporting matter, no wave or impulse can carry atoms from one place to another without changing its state of energy and position of placement. Hence teleporting is also a distant science fiction.

Suppose if there was time travel, or maybe in future we find time travel, then why can’t the people travel from future to here and educate us about its theory and working? Why did not they stop disasters like 9/11? Well, the question is to you to answer…. I’m ending this article now, as my knowledge in these fields are very very limited. I am planning to take this as my research paper, if i get a chance to.

Stalling the universe…

When things get boring and frustrating, we often say the words “if time could move faster…”. This has always amused me. Velocity is the rate of change of length, what we generally call as the speed of an object. Well, this speed is the derivative of length with respect to time. Now comparing or measuring time with its speed is totally insane. But let us imagine a rate, or a unitless quantity to show the change in units. So then what will be the rate of time? And if the time has a unique rate, wouldn’t every other quantity be measureable with it? And the general theory of relativity would be floating in the oceans… Well, the fact is, time is infinite, constant and zero. Isn’t it fascinating that a quantity that can exist as zero as well as infinity? I have the answer. If we take into the fact that time or progress can’t be reversed, then it should have only a positive value. Then, at time of the birth of universe, energy was formed, thus started time. So before, it was zero. Considering the fact that energy of the current expanding universe be infinite, the quantity of time is also infinite. In simple words, time is energy. But not vice versa. Now the question of being constant. What is infinity plus one? Another infinity. So the value is constant. Well said about time, the measurement of time was long ago practiced by humans as well as animals. We found days and nights were proportional, seasons change periodically and so on. Then came devices for the measurement of time. Actually, they are devices for the measurement of the relative change of time with respect to a time-energy bound object in reference to a static frame. The smallest time mechanically measureable is around the nanos but doesn’t the pico’s and beyond exist? Yes they do, but to the current system of ours, its not possible to observe changes as we heavily depend on non tachyonic particles and waves for the
determination. Its not about comparing the speed of time or its rate, but understanding the concepts of the relation of time to the other quantities around us. Feelings, thoughts, which can never be measured in quantity can only be compared with time, that how long it lasted. Its intensity, however is not measureable as for different
people(assessing it) it varies. So basically, we were right about time being the fundamental quantity. But a little wrong in comparing. Speaking of time and energy, most of us will have doubts about their relation. They are not related by any equations, but a link, a link that states that if energy exists, then do time. But it doesn’t mean that if time exist, energy does. There will be no end of time, but the rate can be lowered. As the universe begin to destroy, expell all energy and go back to its original state, the time’s rate will change. Say if we are still alive on earth when 50% of universe is dead, then we will feel days and nights longer, but our clocks reading 24 hours. The effect cannot be predicted but it can be hypothetically ruled out that we will not float around or move faster or will even notice the change, as we all live in a frame that is very very small respective to the universe. Even below the pico ^ pico factor to the size and energy. So its almost clear that there will be an end of the universe, and all the energy and the matter as well as the dark energy and dark matter of the universe will be certain, that time will remain, it will always remain….

Truth, something that has always brought me trouble…

Love, a feeling once I hated, accepted and now regretting…

For all the things i had started with, none has found an end or some place they can be or could have stood, instead has always ended up in some trash can or some place i dont remember. So better i start writing in my blog, and actually spread some of my nonsense :p

To be honest, i am a true nerd hater. i fucking hate nerds so much that if they start to speak about studies in front of me, i will surely kick his ass off, and as for nerd chicks, i could do nothing …. they cant be changed, will always remain as nerds ..

Onto more nonsense, I am having the most undesirable childhood that i ever did not want !!!!

Creating a website for our school

It has been a long time since i was deeply into this idea of creating a website dedicated to my current school, SDVemhss.
It started as an idea of making a static website to include some pics, and some written stuff about the institution.
But later then, i had this change of including a guest-book(like a scrap book) thing and so on which has now been evolved to a social networking platform.

I mean what would be a school without students ?
So decided to make it an alumni portal with both the static data and the collaboration of the students.

My idea is to have a portal dedicated to the students of SDV, where they can send messages, write articles together, do their projects together, meet the old students, and the old ones can arrange get together functions, give instructions to the junior chaps and all
But apart from that, i would like to also add an orkut similar structure to the system so that every student will have a unique profile, and each student can get verified by any teacher in the community.
Every one will have a wall or a scrap book, in which others can scribble on.
Each one of the users can send others private messages, including videos, pics, and anything they like.
Places like teachers only area, students only area restricts access to the respective group only.

But before all this could happen, I need to know who all will be there with me through this endeour and i have included a poll with this. please be kind to vote in your opinion in it. any other suggestion or comments are all welcome, but please please don’t ignore this ! View This Poll

My experiments with gprs

Phew! Yet another boring day.
As stated yesterday, bsnl stands the best provider for me. So if something is best, the next what we do is to loot the maximum out of it. Lol yes, im talking about the hacks.
Bsnl has been known to have the most complex billing systems and activation systems. Well according to me, they aren’t. Mine is a plan exclusive to students, with advantages of 2000 free sms per month, reduced call rate etc… But i guess i am a little extra special. I don’t know how, but i can send free sms to uk and a few sms services like google, gupshup, mytoday etc… My gprs was activated when i had only 1rs balance, my cellone sim services are all free and of all the wonders, my gprs usage including download, upload and browsing is completely totally free !!!
I think the other bsnl users having above 200rs balance can use the cellone portal settings and browse for free. This obviously doesn’t work with access points… So those having dreams of connecting via pc or using opera mini can bow their heads down. But newer phones of nokia come with opera as the built in browser, like my 2600c . It can do pretty good speed and sad that streaming needs access point, else, it would have been fun with youtube also free ……
Now you might get the reason why i really like bsnl…. Lol
